UFTON'S PROGRESS - LATE SUMMER 2011

Christine and Paul have been working hard with Ufton to ensure all his basic commands are as polished as possible. He should soon be ready to move to Guide Dog Training School to begin his next phase of training.

They report he is particularly good at walking steadily - he stays in control as he walks in between everyone and remains very focused. Paul has described Ufton as being very inquisitive. He likes to know what is going on and always seems to have other people's interest at heart.

Ufton did get a holiday though in Barnstaple getting more and more adventurous exploring the beach, woods and fields.

SUFFOLK CARBON CHARTER AWARD TO BUCKLAND OMNIBUS CO LTD

Following our assessment last November by Groundwork and production of an Energy Report and Action Plan implemented in March this year, we were invited to apply for an appraisal to qualify for the Carbon charter accreditation.

We are pleased to announce we were given accreditation to the Suffolk Carbon Charter mark at Bronze level on 03.05.2011.

The Carbon charter is awarded to companies that are monitoring and reducing their carbon emisssions.

We already have in place strict monitoring of fuel consumption and performance, encouraging local schools, businesses and private hire to use our company thereby reducing 'dead' mileage.

Drivers are all professionally trained in good practice.

Initially we are monitoring our energy action plan on a realistic level with a view to reducing carbon emissions by 3% by early 2013.

UFTON'S LATEST NEWS JUNE 2011

As you can see Ufton is growing up fast.

At six weeks he was homed with puppy walkers Christine and Paul by the Guide Dogs Breeding Centre. They undertook to get Ufton into a strict daily routine of feeding, walking and napping times so that he knows exactly what he is doing and when.

He has now learnt basic commands i.e. 'sit', 'stay', 'wait' and 'down'.

Ufton has also been on the train and bus which he loves, he just curls up on the floor and goes to sleep.

While Christine and Paul took a holiday Ufton went to stay with a family that volunteers to board guide dogs. There Ufton had a great time playing with their guide dog puppy and both learned to share their toys!

His host family say Ufton has grown into a very confident and inquisitive puppy who loves to be the centre of all action.

His latest news is a trip to the beach free running on the sand but didn't like the sea.

Hi, meet 'Ufton'

We are sponsoring Ufton who is six weeks old in this picture. He is a Labrador cross golden retriever. Dad is Camargo and Mum is Lotty.

Over the coming months Ufton will be training towards being a fully qualified guide dog.

Firstly he will learn to stop at a kerb to cope with busy rush hour traffic.
